Michael Wasiak
With Friend Friday, we highlight some of the wonderful entrepreneurs and small business owners who do their thing at The Network Hub. This week, we take a look at Michael Wasiak.
Please tell us who you are and what you do
Hi, I’m Michael Wasiak and I create pictures & think up ideas. My work in visual communications spans cultural and commercial fields with a focus on art-direction, motion and interactive design. I’ve created websites, print work, animations, & illustrations, for big and small clients including Adidas, the Syfy network, Redbull, and Kodis Interactive.
Tell us something unique about your approach to your work
My approach involves a lot of research. I’m intensely curious about a lot of things, and the research I do forms the roots & rationale for the final product. My process always is me thinking really hard about stuff on my own, mixed with a lot of research & discussion on how to solve a particular problem. I repeat this process over and over again until the end result is as polished as I can make it.
What inspired you to get into this field?
A steady diet of album covers, skateboard graphics, and zines, marinated with modernism, art and architecture got me hooked.
What do you enjoy the most about what you do?
The challenge of creativity. The process of funnelling huge amounts of information into a simple solution where all of the pieces fit perfectly can be both be scary and exhilarating. It’s a field that pushes you to fail and learn in order create new & exciting work.
Where do you see your industry going in the next 2 years?
Design is a cult of the new, and combined with the manic rate of change in technology, your guess is as good as mine.
What made you decide to join The Network Hub?
I needed a place to drink coffee and stare at my computer around nice people. Coffee shops were a poor fit for me; you’ve got to share power sockets, and I just can’t deal with that.
How has the experience been for you?
The space, sense of community, & beer o’clock fridays are all top shelf! A big thanks to Jay, John, & Minna.
